Danbury Mint’s 1968 Chevelle SS

Last of the True Super Sports
Danbury Mint released this gorgeous Grecian Green 1968 Chevelle SS396 earlier this year in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the last Chevelle SS; running on beautifully executed Chevy Rallye Wheels wrapped in bias ply Red Line tires, the model replicates the 325-horsepower variant of the car.
The fit and finish of the body panels, as well as all of the bright chrome trim, is nothing short of Danbury Mint’s finest. SS badges are prominently displayed in the front grille and rear panel, and while you may have to squint to see them, tiny “396” emblems lie just below. If that doesn’t get your musclecar nostalgia flowing, the large exhaust dumps under the rear bumper surely will.
It’s an older tool, but a good one; the doors, hood, and trunk open on dog leg hinges, but the interior is excellent with forward folding seats, a full console and a Hurst 4-speed shifter, as well as a perfectly laid out dash carrying correct SS trim work. Inside the trunk is a removable full sized red lined spare tire with a removable jacking plate and an accurate trunk mat.
The hood opens to nice detailing; fully labeled and wired, the Chevy orange block sits among a sea of wires, cables and hoses - a full-on homage to one of the era’s classic engines, built up cleanly.
Old tool? Sure. But there’s no denying the finesse here; with a perfect stance and ride height, this is a stellar scale example of ’sixties-era sporting style and eager performance. The car’s available now for $120.00 from the Danbury Mint. Celebrate. - CRM
