It’s all in the details…

The Nuremberg International Toy fair is the place where the industry gathers once a year to show off their wares. TrueScale Miniatures’ booth was jammed with new product - and a few surprises in scale. Join Joe and Wes Miller of TrueScale as they talk about the lineup, including a pair of all-new Lotus turbine racers. 24 minutes; also available in hi-def.

Rockin’ Box…

There’s something special about a street car turned racer - especially when the car is a BMW 320i with the outrageous flares, foils, and wings that this wee Gr. 5 entrant wore to Mosport in 1977. Eddie Cheever and Gilles Villeneuve piloted the car to an overall 2nd place, and a first in class, bested only by a full-race Porsche 934. The model, as done by Minichamps, is heavy, bright, and absolutely rocking on low, wide rubber, with a lot of easy to spot detailing where it counts the most. Joe liked it. We think you might, too.

Winding Down To Nuremberg…

A chill in the air and a sudden urge to stuff ourselves with Kartoffelsalat und wurst can mean only one thing: The Nuremberg Toy Fair is upon us. While the manufacturers keep their latest models under wraps and pack for the show, we take a look at some of the 1:18 cars we’ve kept for a rainy (make that snowy) day.

Chang’s Evos Go “Tow” to “Tow”...

Dave Chang. Know the name? Well, if you’ve been to any of the DiecastSpace conventions, or you’re a fan of Kustoms in scale, then you do. Dave’s latest group of slick, sleek VW Drag Bus-based “Evos” are set up with heavy hauling in mind… and they may be the sweetest rides ever to turn a wheel (in this case, six of ‘em).

We follow up - and go FAST….

Mike “Mr. Hot Wheels” Zarnock loves little cars - and big ones, too. Mike and the Car Room crew follow up with Dave Tucci, builder of this unbelievable 1600-horsepower 1955 Chevrolet Nomad wagon, and meet Jim Alley, the car’s owner, at the 2010 Syracuse Nationals car show. What does a twin-spool big block sound like? Check it out.

Kyosho Rocks a Rocket

Kyosho is celebrating a two-decade run as a leader in the hobby industry this year, and models like this tight, white Audi R8 5.2FSI are proof that they know what collectors of super machinery like. Fully detailed, without relying on fragile materials or mechanisms, the replica of the ten-cylinder, all-wheel-drive uber-beast is a solid, entertaining piece from one of the masters of the metal model. Add a star if basic black and white float your boat.

Kato’s Kustom Rides Again….

In the spirit of many of the successful movie and television cars - and the success of said images in scale - Vitesse is hitting the American market once again on the wheels of a timely, nicely done replica of the 2011 “Black Beauty” from the upcoming cinematic release of “The Green Hornet”, starring Seth Rogen and Jay Chou as the “other” dynamic duo. If you grew up waiting for those moments when the classic Dean Jeffries-tweaked Chrysler would rotate into view, you’ll see just how different - and how cool - this new BB is. And yeah - we’ll be at the movies, opening weekend, too.
